Guatemalan Coffee

Although this country is not big, it has the most diverse weather in the world. Soil, rainfall, humidity, altitude and temperature changes are sufficient to produce seven different types of Guatemalan Arabica coffee.

Atitlan

This area includes all the land around Lake Atitlan. Coffee is mainly harvested on three sides of the volcano on three sides of the Pacific Ocean. In less than a month, Atitlan will have less than 50 millimeters of rain. Most producers in the area will use the water from the lake for wet processing. Chemical substances replace chemical substances and are often used as fertilizers. The incidence of pests and diseases at high altitudes (4,000-5900 feet) is low. The humidity in the area is as high as 70-80%. Drying occurs almost exclusively in the sun, and almost 95% of coffee is grown by an average of 12 hectares of small producers. Most of the coffee harvested in these areas is bourbon, but Typica, Caturra and Catuai coffee beans are also grown. Harvest between December and March. Atitlan coffee is aromatic. They have crisp, bright acidity and full body.

San Marcos

    This is the hottest coffee growing region in Guatemala with the most rainfall. It has the strongest rainy season and the earliest flow in any area. At an altitude of 4,600-6,000 feet, the volcanic soil and the microclimate of the Pacific Ocean are affected. The annual rainfall is 4000-5000 mm and the humidity is between 70-80%. Bourbon, Katla and Kathu coffee beans are grown in this area, from December to March every year.Oriente - New Oriental in the city of Esquipulas. Its weather is similar to that of Cobang, but it is less intense. It is located outside the volcano and the soil consists of metamorphic rocks and clay. Coffee grows at a height ranging from 4,300 to 5,500 feet and a temperature range of 18 to 25 ° C (64-77 degrees Fahrenheit). Compared to the Kob Rainforest or San Marcos, there is relatively little rainfall in the area, only 1800-2,000 mm per year. Coffee from New Oriental is aromatic, with obvious acidity and good body. Bourbon, Kanue, Katula and Pace coffee beans are grown in the eastern part of New Europe, harvesting from December to March every year.
